Saturday 23rd July, Porthcawl Carnival
Saturday 29th July, Porthcawl Summer Festival
Every year, the Porthcawl Town Carnival is held in July. Floats and a variety of acts and shows make their way through the town competing to win the best float prize while collecting money for charities. The procession ends in the carnival field where there are many rides and attractions for the whole family. The carnival is fun and filled with family entertainment and it is guaranteed to draw a crowd even if the weather doesn’t always manage to hold out.
Friday 23rd September - Saturday 24th September - Sunday 25th September
One of the more unique events held during the year is the Annual Elvis Festival; another topic that seems to garner particular interest on the coast. As you may imagine, the event attracts tribute acts and Elvis fans from all around the country and further afield. There is, of course, live music as well as exhibitions and a range of other activities. Even if you are not especially fond of Elvis music, the festival is well worth a visit and offers something a little more unique for your annual holiday. The Elvis Festival is actually the biggest gather of Elvis fans in Europe and it takes place every year in September.
There are numerous other events held in Porthcawl and as well as annual festivals, visitors can also enjoy access to music events and gigs throughout the year. The Grand Pavilion is one of the biggest venues in the area and it is host to plays, the annual pantomime, and other events. The likes of Rob Brydon, who went to school in Porthcawl, as well as other celebrities like Eddie Izzard, Cerys Matthews, and Katherine Jenkins have all recently performed here too.
Porthcawl is especially well known for its popularity with avid surfers. It is widely considered to be one of the best surfing destinations in Wales and Rest Bay, in particular, is home to some of the biggest and best surfing events in the country. There are both regional and national competitions held here throughout the season. The Royal Porthcawl Golf Club is another popular venue for sporting events, having hosted a number of high profile events and tournaments over the years.
The Porthcawl Promenade is a historical area that was first built and used more than 100 years ago to mark the celebration of QueenVictoria’s Golden Jubilee. Since then, it has become the centre of the town in many respects. To this day, there are numerous guest houses, hotels, bars, pubs, and other venues situated here and the promenade itself has enjoyed considerable renovation and rejuvenation since it was first developed.
Another popular pastime for visitors to Porthcawl is playing golf and the three courses situated to the north of town are testament to this fact. Whatever your skill level and experience you can find somewhere to play a round of golf. The Royal Porthcawl Golf Club has played host to a number of tournaments and a number of world famous golfers have set foot on these fairways. The most recent tournament held here was the University Golf Match, in which Oxford University beat Cambridge University 9-6. The course has also hosted the Amateur Championship six times and was awarded royal status back in 1909.

"Action Petz centres are purpose built dog parks with both indoor and outdoor play areas that are lavished in high quality artificial grass, park benches, plants and trees and more tunnels, jumps and play apparatus that your dog could shake a stick at. There is ample room to run, play and socialise, all in a completely secure arena. We encourage all dogs to toilet outside in a specified area but in the event of any little toileting accidents, cleaning will take place straight away with non-toxic products to keep the park fresh and clean. And also for your dog’s extra safety (and your peace of mind!) the entire play park will also be professionally deep cleaned on a weekly basis."
